Youth Programming in Estonia & Latvia

In May 2012 students from the NYU Bronfman Center for Jewish Life at NYU traveled with JDC Entwine to the Baltics. We visited two of the three Baltic countries: Estonia and Latvia. These countries were among the first to be invaded by the Nazis, and at that time Estonia was the first country declared "Juden Frei", or Jew-Free.

Unfortunately, the impact the Holocaust had on these regions is still immense.

However, in the past years, a Jewish community with a school and a synagogue has been established with the help of the JDC and other sponsors. Jewish families want their children to learn about Judaism, They are eager to study Hebrew, learn about Jewish holidays, celebrate Shabbat and even have a Bar Mitzvah!

Our goal is to raise money to fund these youth programs, for we believe they hold the future of this region's Jewish life. Anything you can give will be appreciated!

With Love,

Stephanie Torkian and the NYU Bronfman ‘12 Group
